Hinge Shadowban: Signs, Tests and How to Fix It (2026)
A Hinge shadowban is when your profile seems hidden without any notice: likes stop arriving and nobody likes you back. Hinge never uses the word, but several of its own features can make you invisible without a ban, and its rules let it limit or ban accounts. This guide shows how to tell which one you have, how to test safely, and how to fix each cause.
Every rule on this page comes from Hinge's own Terms of Service, help center and matching explainer, linked where they're used. Practical tips are marked as our advice.

Does Hinge shadowban accounts?
Hinge doesn't confirm shadowbans, but its rules allow limits and several features can hide you. Its Terms of Service (effective 25 August 2025) say Hinge can “remove, delete, edit, limit, or block or prevent access to” your content and can “review and, if appropriate, suspend, terminate, or ban your account without a refund”. Its help center doesn't describe a shadowban.
What Hinge does document are features that quietly cut who sees you: Your Turn Limits, dealbreakers and “Prefer not to say” answers. Check those before assuming the worst.
If Hinge shows “You are not able to meet people yet”, that's an account hold, not a shadowban; see our guide to fixing “You are not able to meet people yet”. If your profile works and you're just getting few likes, start with why you're not getting matches on Hinge.
What are the signs of a Hinge shadowban?
The main sign is a sudden, lasting fall to almost no likes or matches with no message from Hinge and nothing changed in your settings. Most other situations show you something on screen. Use this table to work out which one you have.
| What you see | Most likely | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A screen explaining a ban, with an Appeal button | Ban | Appeal in the app. Don't open a new account. |
| A pop-up telling you to reply to or end a conversation | Your Turn Limits | Reply to or close the chats waiting on you. |
| “You are not able to meet people yet” | Account hold (check, waitlist or incomplete profile) | Follow our hold guide. |
| No message, but likes and matches fall to almost zero for a week or more | Possible quiet limit (“shadowban”), or settings hiding you | Check your settings, then run the safe test. |
| Likes slowly getting fewer over weeks | Low reach: photos, prompts or preferences | Refresh your profile and widen preferences. |
How can you test for a Hinge shadowban?
There's no official test, but you can rule out the documented causes in about a week. These steps are our advice, not a Hinge feature.
- Write down a baseline. Note your likes received and new matches per day over the last two weeks, and the day the drop started.
- Check the screens. Look for a ban screen, a Your Turn Limits pop-up or progress bar, or “You are not able to meet people yet”. Any of these means it isn't a shadowban.
- Check your settings. Count your dealbreakers and “Prefer not to say” answers, and make sure your profile isn't paused.
- Use the app normally for 7 days. Hinge says its algorithm learns from your activity and suggests liking people you think are a good match, rather than liking more people.
- Ask a friend who already uses Hinge nearby, with preferences that fit your profile, whether you appear over a few days. Not appearing once proves nothing; never appearing over several days is a stronger signal.
Don't create a second account to look for yourself. Hinge's Terms require that “You do not have any other accounts on our Services”.
What gets a Hinge account removed or banned?
Breaking Hinge's content and behavior rules. Its Terms say it uses “a combination of automated tools and human reviewers to enforce our content rules”, and its Prohibited Content & Behavior page says violations “may result in the immediate suspension or termination of your account”. These rules are the ones most easily broken by accident:
- Links: “Linking out to other websites or payment platforms”.
- Promotion and spam: “Ads or promotions of any kind” and “Sending spam or mass solicitations”.
- Misleading photos: using “fake identities or AI-generated content to mislead others”, or posting someone else's photo or likeness.
- Photos of minors: including “childhood photos of users”.
- Content you don't own: sharing content you didn't create or don't have permission to use.
- Bots and scraping: the Terms ban using “any robot, crawler, site search/retrieval application”.
- Platform manipulation: “Don't try to manipulate the platform”.
How do you fix a Hinge shadowban?
Clear the features that hide you, remove anything that breaks the rules, then rebuild activity with a stronger profile. Work through these steps in order.
Step 1: Clear Your Turn Limits
Reply to every chat where it's your turn, or end the conversations you won't continue.
Step 2: Loosen dealbreakers and answer fields
Turn off dealbreakers you don't truly need and replace “Prefer not to say” where you're happy to share. Both widen who can see you.
Step 3: Clean up your profile
Remove links, handles and anything promotional; remove childhood photos, photos of other people presented as you, and AI-generated photos that misrepresent you.
Step 4: Refresh photos and prompts
Hinge says photos, videos and prompt answers feed its recommendations, and its no-matches article says candid photos that show your interests tend to get more likes than filtered photos or sunglasses. See the best Hinge photos and how to write Hinge prompts.
Step 5: Like with intent for a week
Hinge recommends liking profiles you think are a good match rather than a greater quantity. Our advice: measure again after 7 days before changing anything else.
Step 6: If you see a ban screen, appeal in the app
Hinge's appeal article says it can only process appeals “submitted through this designated in-app flow”, not email or social media, and that reaching out again after appealing “may alter your position in our processing queue”. Its Terms also say you may not create a new account after a suspension or termination unless Hinge gives express permission.
When it's not a shadowban: fix low reach
Most people who think they're shadowbanned have a reach problem, and photos are the part you control fastest.

FAQ
Does Hinge shadowban accounts?
Hinge does not use the word. Its Terms of Service let it “remove, delete, edit, limit, or block or prevent access to” your content and suspend, terminate or ban accounts, but its help center does not describe a shadowban. Most “invisible” Hinge accounts have a documented cause: Your Turn Limits, narrow dealbreakers, “Prefer not to say” answers, or an account hold.
Why can’t I send or receive likes on Hinge?
The most likely reason is Your Turn Limits. When too many matches are waiting for your reply, Hinge shows a pop-up and you can’t send or receive new likes until you reply to or end those conversations. It applies to subscribers too.
How long does a Hinge shadowban last?
Hinge does not publish a duration for any limit. Your Turn Limits clears as soon as you reply to or close the chats waiting on you. Visibility lost to dealbreakers or “Prefer not to say” returns when you change those settings. A ban stays until an appeal succeeds.
How do I appeal a Hinge ban?
Open the app. Hinge says you’ll see a screen explaining your ban with an Appeal option, and that it can only process appeals sent through that in-app flow, not by email or social media. It also says contacting it again after appealing may change your place in the queue.
Can I make a new Hinge account after a ban?
Not without permission. Hinge’s Terms of Service say you may not create a new account after Hinge suspends or terminates yours unless you receive its express permission.
Will a Boost or HingeX fix a shadowban?
A Boost shows your profile to more people for a limited time, but Hinge has not said paid features lift bans or restrictions, and Your Turn Limits applies to HingeX subscribers too. Fix the cause before paying for anything.
