Bumble Shadowban: Signs, Tests and How to Fix It (2026)
A Bumble shadowban is when your account seems to be hidden without any notice: the app works, but new matches stop. Bumble never uses the word, but its rules do let it restrict, warn or ban accounts. Most sudden drops, though, have ordinary causes. This guide shows how to tell a ban, a restriction and low reach apart, how to test safely, and how to recover.
Every rule on this page comes from Bumble's own Terms and Conditions and Community Guidelines, linked where they're used. Practical tips are marked as our advice.

Does Bumble shadowban accounts?
Bumble doesn't confirm shadowbans, but its rules allow restrictions. Its Terms and Conditions (last updated 17 June 2026) say Bumble may “terminate or suspend any Account, restrict access to the App”. Its Community Guidelines list removing content, issuing a warning and banning a member “from some or all Bumble Inc. apps”. Neither page uses the word “shadowban” or mentions reduced visibility.
“Shadowban” is the name users give to a drop in visibility that comes with no notice. Bumble doesn't say whether it does this, so treat it as possible, not proven. Before assuming the worst, rule out the ordinary causes: your photos, your filters, how often you use the app, and matches that expired or unmatched.
If your account works and you're simply getting few matches, start with our guide to why you're not getting matches on Bumble.
What are the signs of a Bumble shadowban?
The main sign is a sudden, lasting fall to almost no new matches with no message from Bumble. A ban or a warning is different: Bumble shows you a notification. Use this table to work out which situation you're in.
| What you see | Most likely | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A notification that your account is banned or restricted, or you can't log in | Ban, suspension or restriction | Use the appeals form linked in the notification. Don't open a new account. |
| A warning, or a photo or profile detail that was removed | Content action under the Community Guidelines | Fix the flagged item before you upload anything new. |
| No message, but new matches fall to almost zero and stay there for a week or more | Possible quiet restriction (“shadowban”) or low reach | Run the safe test, then the fix steps. |
| Matches that vanish from your list | Expired matches, unmatches or removed accounts | Send your opening message sooner; see how Bumble conversations start. |
| Matches slowly getting fewer over weeks | Low reach: photos, filters or activity | Improve photos, widen filters, use the app regularly. |
How can you test for a Bumble shadowban?
There's no official test, but you can rule out the normal causes in about a week. These steps are our advice, not a Bumble feature.
- Write down a baseline. Note how many new matches you got per day over the last two weeks, and the day the drop started.
- Rule out your own changes. Did you stop opening the app, move, narrow your distance or age filters, or swap your photos around that date?
- Check for notifications. Look for any message from Bumble about a warning, removed content or a restriction. If there is one, it's not a shadowban; follow its steps.
- Use the app normally for 7 days. Open it daily, swipe thoughtfully rather than on everyone, and message your matches promptly so they don't expire.
- Ask a friend who already uses Bumble nearby, with filters that fit your profile, whether you show up over a few days. Not appearing once proves nothing; never appearing over several days is a stronger signal.
Don't create a second account to look for yourself. Bumble's Terms say it may “suspend or close your Account where you have multiple Accounts”, so that test can cause the very problem you're trying to check.
What gets a Bumble account restricted or banned?
Breaking the Community Guidelines. Bumble's Terms say it uses “a combination of automated systems, user reports and a team of moderators to monitor and review accounts and content”. These guideline rules are the ones most easily broken by accident:
- Contact details in your name: the username rules don't allow “social media or messaging platform details”, emojis, numbers or non-name words.
- A face photo is required: Bumble wants “at least one of your profile photos to depict only you and to clearly show your full face.”
- Heavily edited photos: photos that are “heavily distorted or contain exaggerated or unnatural digital effects” aren't allowed.
- Photos of children: profile photos of children on their own aren't allowed.
- Promotion: “Our platform is not a marketplace.” No unsolicited commercial or promotional use.
- Spam and misleading links: no unwanted content “sent in bulk or high frequency”, and no multiple active profiles used for unwanted contact.
- Automation: “we don't allow unauthorized automated behaviors that undermine or interfere with our platform”, such as auto-swipers or scripts.
- Impersonation: Bumble doesn't allow impersonation or misrepresentation.
For the full list, read the Community Guidelines.
How do you fix a Bumble shadowban?
Remove anything that breaks the rules, stop any tools, then rebuild normal activity with a stronger profile. Work through these steps in order.
Step 1: Clean up your profile
Take any social handle, emoji or number out of your name, and any contact details or links out of your bio and photos. Make sure at least one photo shows only you with your full face visible, and remove heavily filtered photos and photos of children.
Step 2: Stop third-party apps and auto-swipers
Disconnect anything that swipes or messages for you. Bumble's guidelines ban unauthorized automation.
Step 3: Use the app like a normal member
Our advice: open Bumble regularly, swipe with intent, and send your opening message soon after you match so conversations start before matches expire.
Step 4: Refresh your photos and filters
Lead with a clear, recent solo photo, and check your filters for distance and age aren't so narrow that few people fit. Our guides to the best Bumble photos and Bumble bio examples help with each part.
Step 5: If Bumble sent you a notification, appeal it
See appeals below. Keep a screenshot of the notification and the date.
Step 6: Give it time, then measure again
Bumble doesn't publish how long any restriction lasts. Our advice: compare a full week of normal use with your baseline before changing anything else.
Can you appeal, or start a new Bumble account?
Appeal, yes. A new account to get around a restriction, no.
- Appeals: Bumble's Terms give you “the option to appeal our decision within a six-month period”. Use the appeals form linked in the notification shown to you in the app, and explain why you're appealing.
- Mistakes: the Community Guidelines say that if you believe Bumble made a mistake taking action on your account or content, you can contact Bumble.
- New accounts and VPNs: the guidelines don't allow “the creation of new accounts or use of VPNs” to get around a restriction.
- Purchases: the Terms say blocked members are not entitled to refunds.
When it's not a shadowban: fix low reach
Most people who think they're shadowbanned have a reach problem, and photos are the part you control fastest.

FAQ
Does Bumble shadowban accounts?
Bumble does not use the word. Its Terms and Conditions say it can terminate or suspend accounts and restrict access to the app, and its Community Guidelines list removing content, issuing a warning and banning a member as possible actions. Neither page mentions reduced visibility, so a quiet limit is possible but not something Bumble confirms. Most sudden drops in matches have ordinary causes.
How long does a Bumble shadowban last?
Bumble does not publish how long any restriction lasts. If your matches dropped because of your photos, settings or activity, they can recover once you change them. If Bumble showed you a ban or restriction notice, its Terms say you can appeal within six months using the form linked in that notification.
Why do my Bumble matches keep disappearing?
Usually not because of a shadowban. Bumble matches can expire if no one sends an opening message in time, the other person may have unmatched you, or their account may have been removed. Our Bumble Opening Moves guide explains how conversations and expiry work now.
Can I appeal a Bumble ban or restriction?
Yes. Bumble’s Terms and Conditions say you can appeal within a six-month period by filling out the appeals form linked in the notification shown to you in the app, and explaining why. Its Community Guidelines also say you can contact Bumble if you believe it made a mistake.
Can I make a new Bumble account to get around a ban?
No. Bumble’s Community Guidelines do not allow creating new accounts or using VPNs to get around a restriction, and its Terms say Bumble may suspend or close your account if you have multiple accounts.
Will Bumble Premium or a Boost lift a shadowban?
Bumble has not said that paid features remove restrictions, and its Terms say blocked members are not entitled to refunds. Fix the cause before paying for anything.
