Hinge “You Are Not Able to Meet People Yet”: How to Fix It

“You are not able to meet people yet” on Hinge means your account is on hold: you can't see, like or match with anyone until a pending step clears. The usual causes are an unfinished age, ID or Face Check, the waitlist Hinge runs in some regions, or a profile missing required photos or prompts. This guide shows how to tell which one you have and what to do.

Hinge's help center doesn't explain this exact wording, so everything below is matched to account holds Hinge does document, with links to its own pages.

What does “You are not able to meet people yet” mean on Hinge?

It means Hinge hasn't fully let your account in yet. Until a pending step is done, you can't browse, like or match, and others usually can't see you. Hinge's help center documents four holds that fit: an age check, an ID check under review, a required Face Check, and its regional waitlist. An incomplete profile can also stop you. It is not a judgment of your looks.

The word “yet” is the useful clue. This is a status that is waiting on something, usually from you, rather than a punishment. Bans and Your Turn Limits look different (more on that below).

If your profile is live and you're simply getting few likes or matches, that's a different problem. Our guide to why you're not getting matches on Hinge covers it.

Why does Hinge say you are not able to meet people yet?

Six documented situations can keep a Hinge account from connecting with anyone. The first four are the most likely on a new account. Read every line on the screen and note any button, such as Verify, Start or Appeal, because it usually points straight at the cause.

1. An age check you haven't finished

  • What Hinge says: if you're shown an age check, you must complete it. Until then you can't send likes or messages and your profile won't be visible to others, per Hinge's Age Checks article (updated November 2026).
  • Where it applies: the method depends on where you are. Hinge lists a video selfie in the EEA and Switzerland, a face photo upload in Australia and Brazil, and a Face Check scan in the UK.
  • Watch out for: if the automated check can't confirm you're 18 or over, Hinge does a manual review or asks for more verification, such as an ID.

2. An ID check that's waiting for review

  • What Hinge says: “You won't be able to start connecting with people on Hinge until we verify your ID.” While a team member reviews it manually, you can keep setting up your account but can't view, match with or message other daters.
  • What it needs: a valid government ID showing your date of birth and face, such as a passport, driver's license, national ID card or residence permit.

3. A Face Check that failed or wasn't completed

  • What Hinge says: Face Check is a video selfie that checks you're a real, live person and compares you with your profile photos. Its Face Check article (updated October 2026) says it's being rolled out in phases where local rules allow.
  • Why it blocks you: if you fail Face Check, you can't access Discover or send likes until verification is complete.
  • Easy to miss: moving your profile location to a region where Face Check is required can trigger it.

4. You're on the Hinge waitlist

  • What Hinge says: in some regions, Hinge brings new members on gradually to balance the dating pool. Once you're off the waitlist, “you'll be able to view, like, and interact with other daters”, per its waitlist article (updated August 2026).
  • How long: for non-subscribers, anywhere from a few hours to a few months or more.
  • What affects it: how your profile and preferences fit the local mix, your photo and prompt quality, whether you've done Selfie Verification, and your location.
  • Watch out for: certain profile changes can put an existing member back on the waitlist.

5. Your profile is missing required parts

  • What Hinge says: members need four to six photos, depending on local requirements, plus three prompt answers, per How do I edit my profile? Hinge's Community Guidelines also require one photo that clearly shows your face.
  • Check: empty photo slots, a prompt you skipped, or a photo that was removed. Our guide to how many photos you need on Hinge explains the limits.

6. Your location is outside Hinge's supported countries

  • What Hinge says: new members can only set their first location in countries where Hinge is available to download. An account set to an unsupported area may be removed.
  • Check: that your profile location is where you really are, not a test pin or a trip destination.

How do you fix “You are not able to meet people yet” on Hinge?

Finish whatever the app is asking for, fill every required part of your profile, then wait or contact support. Work through these steps in order. Most holds clear at step 2 or 3.

Step 1: Screenshot the screen

Save the full message, any button text and the date and time. Hinge support asks for screenshots, and you'll need the exact wording if you contact them.

Step 2: Complete any check the app offers

  • Age check, video selfie or Face Check: tap the prompt and finish it in one go.
  • If the scan keeps failing: Hinge suggests good light, your whole face visible, no sunglasses or hats and a neutral expression. Exit the scan and start again rather than retrying mid-flow.
  • ID check: upload a valid government ID that shows your date of birth and your face, then wait for the review to finish.

Step 3: Fill every required profile slot

  • Photos: at least your local minimum, with a clear solo photo of your face. Face Check compares your face with your photos, so Hinge advises avoiding group, altered or filtered photos.
  • Prompts: three answers. See how to write Hinge prompts.
  • Location: set to where you live.

Step 4: If you're waitlisted, improve what Hinge scores

Hinge says it re-scores waitlisted profiles when you edit them, and lists ways to move up: a complete profile, clear natural photos where you're the focus, specific prompt answers, thoughtful preferences and Selfie Verification. It doesn't promise a timeline. To pick your strongest lead photo, see which photo to put first on Hinge.

Step 5: Rule out the simple stuff

  • Update or reinstall: Hinge's Basic Troubleshooting page suggests logging out and back in, then reinstalling (your profile isn't deleted unless you tap Delete Account).
  • Same login method: sign in with the phone number, Google account or Apple ID you signed up with.
  • Pause: make sure Pause is off in Settings. A paused account isn't shown to new people.

Step 6: Contact Hinge support

If nothing changes, use the support form or chatbot in Hinge's help center, or email hello@hinge.co. Include your screenshots, the date, your phone's OS version, your Hinge app version and what you've tried. Hinge has no phone line and says support is always free, so ignore any “Hinge support number” you find online.

Is “not able to meet people yet” a ban or a shadowban?

No. A ban, Your Turn Limits and a quiet profile each look different from this message. Knowing which one you have saves you from fixing the wrong thing.

  • Ban: Hinge shows a screen explaining your ban, sometimes with a reason, and an Appeal button. Appeals only work through that in-app flow, per How can I appeal my ban? A banned user can't open a new account.
  • Your Turn Limits: a pop-up says you must reply to or end chats with matches waiting on you before you can send or receive new likes. Hinge's Your Turn Limits article says it applies to subscribers too.
  • “Shadowban”: Hinge's help center doesn't describe one. If you can like people but hear nothing back, your profile is live and the fix is photos, prompts and preferences, not account status.

How long does it take to be able to meet people on Hinge?

Anywhere from instantly to a few months, depending on the cause. A finished check or a filled photo slot can clear the hold right away. Hinge says waitlist times range from a few hours to a few months or more, and it gives no timeline for manual age or ID reviews.

  • Turn on push notifications: Hinge says it will tell waitlisted members the moment they're in.
  • Avoid big profile changes while waiting: some changes can send an admitted member back to the waitlist.
  • Don't keep messaging support: for ban appeals, Hinge says extra follow-ups can change your place in the queue.

What should you do once Hinge lets you in?

Make sure the profile people finally see is your best one. The same things that can shorten a waitlist, like clear photos and specific prompts, also shape how people react once you're live.

  • Check your photos: MatchShot, a free AI dating profile analyzer that scores your Tinder, Hinge and Bumble photos and tells you what to fix, gives each photo a score with red and green flags and suggests your photo order. Upload 3 to 6 photos plus optional Hinge prompt screenshots; results take about 60 seconds, with no account or credit card. Start at the free MatchShot audit.
  • Get a second opinion: see our rate my Hinge profile guide.
  • Need new photos? MatchShot also has an AI dating photo generator paid with one-time credit packs, with no subscription (see MatchShot pricing). FAQ

How long does “You are not able to meet people yet” last on Hinge?

It depends on the cause. A pending check or a missing photo clears as soon as you complete it. Hinge says waitlist times can range from a few hours to a few months or more, and it does not publish a timeline for manual ID reviews.

Is “You are not able to meet people yet” a shadowban?

No. Hinge’s help center does not describe a shadowban, and this message is shown to you openly. A ban is also different: Hinge shows a separate screen explaining the ban, with an Appeal button.

Can people see my Hinge profile while I can’t meet people yet?

Usually not. Hinge says that until you complete an age check your profile won’t be visible to others, and that while your ID is being reviewed you can’t view, match with or message other daters.

Will paying for Hinge+ or HingeX remove the message?

Not for checks. Hinge says that if you fail Face Check you can’t use Discover or send likes even after a purchase, and Your Turn Limits applies to subscribers too. Its waitlist article does say the variable wait times apply to non-subscribers, so check the screen before buying anything.

Should I delete my account and make a new one?

Not as a first step. A new account usually means repeating the same checks, and Hinge says that if your account is banned you can’t create a new one. Finish what the app asks for, then contact Hinge support if nothing changes.

Are likes I sent during review lost?

Not necessarily. Hinge says that if a new user’s age needs a manual review, they can still send likes in Discover, but those likes aren’t delivered until the review is complete.
