Hinge how-to

Free Hinge Profile Review: How to Get One (AI and Reddit)

You can get a free Hinge profile review from a free AI analyzer, from Hinge's own Prompt Feedback and Top Photo tools, from Reddit's r/hingeapp, or from a friend with a checklist. Each one sees something the others miss. This guide shows how to use each option, what to post on Reddit, and how to tell useful feedback from noise.

We make MatchShot, so weigh our view accordingly; we've noted where Hinge's own tools or human reviewers do a better job.

What is the best way to get a free Hinge profile review?

Combine two free sources: an instant AI review for structure, and human eyes for gut reaction. Run your photos and prompt screenshots through MatchShot's free audit (no account, about 60 seconds), turn on Hinge's Prompt Feedback and Top Photo, then post to r/hingeapp or ask a friend to rank your photos. Fix what more than one source flags.

  • Want an answer in a minute, privately: use an AI analyzer.
  • Want Hinge's own signal: use Prompt Feedback and Top Photo.
  • Want blunt human opinions: post on Reddit.
  • Want someone who knows the real you: ask a friend, with specific questions.

If you want to know what a good review should look at (photo order, prompt quality, completeness), our Hinge profile review guide covers that in depth. This page is about where to get one for free.

What are the free options for a Hinge profile review?

There are four genuinely free ways to get your Hinge profile reviewed: an AI analyzer, Hinge's built-in tools, Reddit, and friends. We judged them on what they review (photos, prompts or both), whether they explain why, how private they are, and how fast you get an answer.

1. A free AI profile analyzer (fastest)

Upload screenshots, get a scored review in about a minute. Best when you want a private, structured answer right now.

  • What you get from MatchShot: a 0-100 profile score (Excellent, Strong, Okay, Weak or Rebuild), a score and red and green flags for every photo, a ranked photo order (keep, swap or cut), and rewrites for your Hinge prompts.
  • Cost: free, no account and no credit card. Upload 3-6 photos, plus prompt screenshots if you want the text reviewed.
  • Strengths: instant, private (your report lives at a private link) and the same criteria every time, so you can compare before and after.
  • Watch out for: an AI score is not a vote from real Hinge users in your city. Use it to catch problems, not to predict likes.

2. Hinge’s own free tools: Prompt Feedback and Top Photo

Hinge already reviews part of your profile for you, inside the app, at no extra cost.

  • Prompt Feedback: for users with complete profiles, Hinge rates up to three prompts as “Great Answer”, “Try a Small Change” or “Go a Little Deeper”. Hinge says the feedback is private and never tells you exactly what to write.
  • Top Photo: turn it on and Hinge uses a machine learning model to predict which photo is most likely to get a like, then puts it first. Find it under your Photo icon, then the Pencil icon, then the Top Photo toggle.
  • Strengths: it is Hinge’s own data, and it costs nothing.
  • Watch out for: neither tool tells you why a photo is weak or which photo to cut.

3. Reddit (free human opinions)

Post your profile on r/hingeapp and real daters will tell you what they see. Best when you want blunt human reactions and can handle mixed advice.

  • Where: r/hingeapp is the Hinge-specific community. General subs such as r/Tinder and r/OnlineDating have restricted standalone review posts at times, or sent them to a dedicated thread, so check each sidebar first.
  • Strengths: strangers see your profile the way a match would, with no reason to be polite.
  • Watch out for: your profile becomes public, advice often conflicts, and commenters are not necessarily the people you want to date.

4. A friend with a checklist

Free, private, and surprisingly useful, as long as you ask specific questions instead of “Do I look OK?”.

  • Strengths: they know you, so they can spot photos that don’t look like you or prompts that don’t sound like you.
  • Watch out for: friends tend to be kind, and they already know what you look like, so they may not notice a lead photo that hides your face.

MatchShot, a free AI dating profile analyzer that scores your Tinder, Hinge and Bumble photos and tells you what to fix, is the tool behind option 1. Hinge facts above come from Hinge's help center articles on Prompt Feedback and Top Photo (both updated June 2026).

How do you get a free Hinge profile review on Reddit?

Post screenshots of your full profile to r/hingeapp, with context about what you want and how the profile is performing. Reviewers give much better advice when they know your goals and numbers. Posts without context tend to get one-line replies.

What to include in your post

Profile review posts on r/hingeapp in 2026 commonly answer the same set of questions. Including them up front saves a round of back-and-forth:

  • Looking for: long-term, short-term, or still figuring it out.
  • Subscription: free, Hinge+ or HingeX.
  • Profile age: how long you've used this version, and Hinge overall.
  • How often you use it: daily, a few times a week.
  • Likes and matches received: rough numbers for the last few weeks.
  • Likes sent: how many, and how many with a comment.
  • Who you like: the kind of person you send likes to.

How to protect your privacy

  • Use a separate account: a fresh Reddit username keeps your dating profile apart from your usual posting history.
  • Blur identifying details: your name, workplace, school, Instagram handle and anything that shows where you live.
  • Remember it's public: once posted, anyone can see and save your photos. Delete the post when you're done.

What about r/Tinder and r/OnlineDating?

General dating subs are a weaker fit for a Hinge review. r/Tinder has a history of sending profile reviews to a dedicated thread rather than allowing them as standalone posts, and r/OnlineDating has removed review requests in the past. Rules change, so read each sub's sidebar before you post, and expect advice there to be less Hinge-specific (prompts work differently from a Tinder bio).

Should you ask a friend to review your Hinge profile?

Yes, and research suggests they may pick better photos than you would. In two studies with 610 participants, White, Sutherland and Burt found that profile photos chosen by other people created more favorable first impressions than photos people chose of themselves (Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications, 2017). Their advice: if you want to put your best face forward, ask someone else to choose.

The catch is that friends are kind. Give them a task instead of asking for reassurance:

  • Rank, don't rate: ask them to put your photos in order from best to worst.
  • Ask for one cut: “If I had to delete one photo, which one?”
  • Read the prompts aloud: ask which answer they would actually reply to, and what they would say.
  • Pick an honest friend: ideally someone who would date the kind of person you are, or has used Hinge recently.

The same applies the other way: if a friend asks you for a review, a structured AI score gives you both something specific to talk about instead of vague reassurance.

How do you review your own Hinge profile for free?

Check your profile against Hinge's own published list of photos that tend to get more and fewer likes, then test each prompt for a reply hook. It takes about 15 minutes and costs nothing. Open your profile, tap the Pencil icon, and use View to see it as others do.

Photo checklist

  • Lead photo: your face is clear, well lit and not hidden by sunglasses or a hat.
  • Avoid in your top slots: bathroom or mirror selfies, filtered photos and sunglasses, all of which Hinge says tend to get fewer likes.
  • Include: photos that show your interests, a candid shot, and a real smile, which Hinge says tend to get more likes.
  • No guessing games: in any group photo, it's obvious which one is you.

Prompt checklist

  • Specific: each answer contains a detail only you would write (a place, a dish, a habit).
  • Replyable: someone could comment on it with more than “haha same”.
  • Not a cliché: Hinge's Prompt Feedback announcement names “pineapple on pizza” and being “overly competitive about… everything” as common answers that fall short.

Hinge's photo list comes from its help article Why aren't I getting any matches? (updated July 2026). For deeper fixes, see which photo to put first on Hinge, our dating profile photo red flags, and how to write Hinge prompts that get replies.

Which free Hinge feedback should you trust?

Trust feedback that more than one source agrees on, and feedback that names a specific photo or line. If the AI flags your lead photo, a Reddit commenter says they can't see your face, and your friend ranks it last, swap it. If only one person dislikes something, treat it as an opinion.

  • Act on: repeated flags, concrete reasons (“sunglasses hide your eyes”) and clear swaps.
  • Weigh carefully: taste-based comments (“I don't like beards”) and advice from people who aren't your target audience.
  • Ignore: comments about your body or looks that you can't or don't want to change. A good review judges photos, not people.
  • Test it: change one or two things, then give it about a week before judging.

Free reviews have limits. If you want real votes from people of a chosen age and gender, or a named human reviewer to talk you through every detail, a paid human-rating service is a better fit than any free option, including ours.

What if every review says your photos need replacing?

Take new photos before you rewrite anything else: daylight, a friend holding the phone at eye level, and at least one shot doing something you enjoy. Our best Hinge photos guide lists the shots worth having.

  • AI photos, carefully: MatchShot also has an AI dating photo generator that creates a set of dating photos from a few selfies, paid with one-time credit packs that never expire and no subscription. See MatchShot pricing for current packs.
  • Stay recognizable: AI-generated photos are not real unedited photos. Check Hinge's rules and read whether AI dating photos are allowed before using them.

FAQ

Is there a completely free Hinge profile review?

Yes. MatchShot’s AI audit is free with no account or credit card, Hinge’s Prompt Feedback and Top Photo are built into the app, and r/hingeapp on Reddit gives free human feedback. Each covers a different part of your profile, so using two of them together works best.

Does Hinge review your profile for free?

Partly. Hinge’s Prompt Feedback gives users with complete profiles a private rating on up to three prompts (“Great Answer”, “Try a Small Change” or “Go a Little Deeper”). Top Photo tests your photos and puts the one most likely to get a like first. Neither one critiques your photos in words.

Is Reddit good for a Hinge profile review?

It can be, if you post with full context and expect blunt, mixed opinions. Posts on r/hingeapp commonly list what you’re looking for, your subscription, how long you’ve used the profile and your likes received. Look for feedback several commenters agree on, and blur anything that identifies you.

Should I ask friends to review my Hinge profile?

Yes, but give them a job. Research by White, Sutherland and Burt (2017) found that photos picked by other people gave better first impressions than photos people picked of themselves. Ask a friend to rank your photos, not just say whether you look good.

How often should I get my Hinge profile reviewed?

Get a review whenever you change photos or prompts, then give the new version about a week before judging it. Changing one or two things at a time makes it clear which change helped.
